Hunting in Africa

Steenbok, taken in Africa

Steenbok (approx. 15 kg)

The night I didn’t slept very well but the breakfast was outstanding. After putting al the hunting stuff into the Jeep we drove to north. During the drive we saw a lot of very huge Oryx bulls. But we were out for a big Greater Kudu – a really big one. The first Kudu I missed was categorized from Frank as top ten in Namibia. As we all know hunting can be beautiful on the one hand and on the other hand it can be cruel…

Frank was driving the Jeep in the dry riverbed. He took a shift to the right and immediate we saw a Steenbok on the left site of the river in approx. 70 yards away from us. With my Leica binoculars I could see a nice buck. The trophy looks very impressive. “Would you like to take this one because he is a good one?” Frank was asking me. “Yes – I’ll take this; the buck is also standing bore site” was my answer. At the same time I got my rifle ready to fire. The fine crosshair automatically got just behind the shoulder. I shot and the buck directly went down.

This Steenbok was measured and got the bronze medal. The total sum of points is 27.6 points. The length of the left trophy was 3 9/10 inches and the length of the right horn was 3 4/5 inches. Both the horns have a base circumference of 1 2/3 inches. Please refer to the following link: http://www.natron.net/napha/index.html
