Hunting in Africa
At the Guest- and Hunting FarmThe first morning the first sunrays waked us up. After a wonderful Namibian breakfast we prepared the hunting stuff. The PH’s wife picked up us before lunch after we went to the city to catch up some more needed stuff. We stowed the luggage into the van. Afterwards we did a typical lunch in Windhoek. The daughter and the oldest son of Frank and Gudrun joined us for lunch. Frank, our PH didn’t have much time because he had a meeting with the administration department of the Conservancies. As he is the president of NAPHA (Namibian Professional Hunters Association) he has to represent all the matters belonging to the hunting regulations.
Guest- and Hunting Farm Otjiruse The drive from Windhoek to Okahandja took us nearly one hour. We met one of the taxidermists in Windhoek. His name is Karl Reiser and he is doing a very well job. For the first time in my life I could see the skull of an Oryx, a beautiful pedestal mount of a Kudu and a lot of other animals. Karl showed us one of his newest projects that are still ongoing – an Alaskan Moose! We had a good discussion about ammo, bullets penetration and the toughness of the African animals. The last fifteen minutes drive to the hunting farm took us thru the bush. We saw some Oryx and some Kudu cows. When we arrived at the guest farm Otjiruse, it was already dark. The youngest son was waiting for us. The farm is very beautiful, the guest room was very properly and created with style. I didn’t expect such a luxury out there in the African bush…
